To me it refers to two interdependent yet distinct processes. Inner and outer. One focused on the self, one’s inner landscape or spiritual life. The other focused on so-called consensus reality or one’s outer life: society, history, cosmology, philosophy, etc.
To “wake up” can mean undergoing one, the other, or both of these processes. And sometimes they can be closely linked and/or mutually strengthening.
My journey of seeing through the veil of the consensus reality – one mediated by corporate media outlets, mainstream educational systems, and science institutions – has been a long, strange trip indeed. The iconic visual meme of Morpheus offering the red and blue pills to Neo in the Matrix film comes vividly to mind. I chose the red pill, preferring truth over mental comfort. How deep does this rabbit hole go? It goes both symbolically and literally all the way to the center of the universe. Which is to say, your very own center.
It has been a journey going on 20 years now. Over that time, I have come to uncover information that, though at times difficult to digest or integrate, has deeply transformed my working model of reality. I have had the great privilege of: 1) spare time for research, study, and introspection 2) a mind that thrives on inquiry and asking deep questions 3) relationships and lifestyle conditions that support investigation into otherwise marginalized topics and areas of conversation.
So I thought I would attempt to honor and express my gratitude for the fruits of my privileges by creating a sort of cliffs notes for the awakening mind – a condensed synopsis and trail guide for other intrepid seekers who may be on their own journey of seeking to make sense of the mysteries of life and creation.
First, some ground rules. The core Hermetic axiom: As above, so below will hold sway in this presentation. Outer phenomena correspond directly and precisely to inner phenomena. All that we see and perceive out there is literally a reflection of our own mental impressions and projections. What we think, we experience. This dynamic is fundamental to understanding the mechanics of what we experience as reality. And it is the best news anyone could give you because it means that we are the masters of our experience. Change your mind, change the universe.
